In Dubai, the World’s Most Expensive Car Plate Number Sold for $15 Million

At a new world record price, the most expensive vehicle plate number in the world was sold for AED 55 million ($15 million) at a charity auction held in Dubai, according to the auction organizers in the Emirates.

The "Most Noble Number" charity auction, organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives in collaboration with Emirates Auction and supported by the Roads and Transport Authority and Emirates Telecommunications Group Company "Etisalat," raised AED 50.45 million on "Zayed Humanitarian Day." This amount, equivalent to providing 50.45 million meals, was generated from the sale of four distinctive vehicle plate numbers and five distinctive mobile phone numbers, with the proceeds going to support the "100 Million Meals" campaign, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The campaign, sponsored and overseen by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, aims to assist vulnerable communities during the holy month of Ramadan by distributing meals across 30 countries on four continents throughout Ramadan, according to earlier statements from the auction house that organized the event this month.

The "P7" plate surpassed the previous record set by Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri, who purchased a vehicle plate for AED 52.2 million ($14.2 million) in February 2008 at an auction also organized by the same company.

Other car plates were sold at the auction, held at the Four Seasons Hotel Jumeirah, for amounts including AED 2,950,000 ($800,000) and AED 140,000 ($38,000).
