Pledges from international humanitarian and charitable organisations, along with individual contributions from major donors, exceeded AED 1.049 billion. The “Most Noble Number” charity auction for distinguished numbers, held yesterday in Dubai, also recorded AED 91.405 million in support of the “Edge of Life” campaign, which aims to save 5 million children from dying of hunger. The campaign was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, to secure at least AED 1 billion to be invested in combating child hunger worldwide.
This total resulted from charity bidding on 29 distinguished vehicle plate numbers and mobile numbers, valued at AED 91.405 million, in addition to pledges worth USD 276.36 million (AED 1.014 billion) from international humanitarian and charitable organisations, and AED 35.816 million in individual contributions from participating major donors.
This was announced during the Ramadan suhoor organised by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives at Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa, bringing together leaders of charitable organisations and business leaders, in cooperation with Badr Jafar, the Special Envoy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Business and Philanthropy.
The humanitarian charity evening saw the participation of prominent business leaders, philanthropists, and supporters of charitable work, as attendees competed to purchase distinguished vehicle plate numbers and mobile numbers—reflecting the strong engagement with humanitarian initiatives led by the UAE.
Dubai’s single-digit plate number 6 DD, issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), achieved the highest price in the auction after being sold for AED 37 million. The sales also included several other premium plates sold for millions of dirhams, contributing to raising the auction proceeds for the humanitarian initiative.
The auction also offered a selection of distinguished mobile numbers from du and e&, where the highest-selling number reached approximately AED 4.5 million, while the lowest-selling number recorded AED 45,000, amid strong competition to acquire premium numbers in support of the initiative’s humanitarian goals.
